suggestion for cloning a product
« on: March 31, 2014, 05:09:35 AM »
suggestion for cloning a product,

when i clone a product

i have to remember the article number

because i need to insert this again to find both the original one and the cloned one

to pick-up the second one and alter it into a new product

maybe it would be handy if the two products, the original and the cloned one,

were directly visible after clicking the "clone" button

I believe, after cloning, new product is created with the original name + word copy .
You can go to products grid and filter result with original name. You will get original and new products in the grid.

hi abantecart administrator,

i use for every article a description that starts with a number

for example 2720-set-van-4-eetkamerstoelen-grijs-leer-stalen-frame

so when i want to add more of te similar

i clone 2720

and i have to remember the number

because after the cloning

i have to add that number again to find the original and the copy

but my idea for the developers was to make it automatic

i am not an IT-developer, but i think it could be possible somehow

if one makes many copies, it saves you time

just an idea from holland

kees -  you're working too hard -  you don't have to remember the product name or number
clone whatever prod you wish,  when the grid returns  simply type    copy     in the product name and it will bring up the cloned product

ok, type copy

but that's the same like typing the article number

it would be nice if after clicking clone both would appear automatically

Were going to report it too but Kees made it first.  []
The Cloning button does in fact drops whatever filter you had in the product listing before pressing it.  How to reproduce:

1. Admin Catalog > Product list: Filter by entering name or model id
2. Press the Clone button
3. See that your filter was dropped, and the list was reordered. Now you have to *re-enter* your filter (or 'Copy', as Lee suggested) to look it up again.

The problem with 'Copy' trick here is that it only finds you the new clone, while the folks out there (from own experience) are willing to witness 2 or more products (original filter) on the same page to be sure it worked correctly, and to edit/compare parameters. While this is a minor issue, the Cloning is popular thing, so keeping (not dropping) the filter could help make the cart even better experience for those of us frequently using the Cloning.
