Can't upgrade to 1.1.8 or above; no SQL dump?

I repeatedly receive the error message, "Error: Can't create sql dump of database during backup" when I try to upgrade my shopping cart to 1.1.8, either through the package installer or through extension upload. I only created the cart recently and it was set up with version 1.1.7. I don't know what to do at this point! I've read through the forums and support documentation but nothing answers my question. Do you know how to fix this? Could it be it a problem with my softalicious installation? Does something need to be changed in the setup?

I get the same error when I attempt to back up my cart. I was able to download a compressed tar.gz file of the backup, so something worked -- but I keep getting the error message whenever I run a backup, a few minutes after the backup is completed.

did you change your file permissions to the correct settings?

In the documentation are the files that often need changing  http://www.abantecart.com/ecommerce-documentation/20-installation

One of them if admin/sysem/backup/  needs to be 0777

check out those permissions and see if that solves your issue.

Thank you for that link -- I installed through softalicious (which the documentation mentions at the end) and yet I am encountering this error. Where can I go (in PHPmyAdmin?) to change the setting that might be causing the issue? In my file directory, the folder that you mention looks like this and it appears that the permissions are correct...? (See right-hand side of screenshot.) Thanks again!

the screen shot is off your backup file.

Here's where you need to be checking the permissions:
cPanel
File Manager
select public_html
 If you have your abantecart in a directory - select that directory
Then  -  open Admin, open system
Check the permissions on BACKUP - needs to be 777, if not -
Highlight backup (by clicking on it)   select Change Permission from tool ribbon above, add check marks in the box until you have the permissions you need (takes all of them)-

It is not a setting within phpMyAdmin.

Thank you so much for all of your direction! I have followed your instructions but it still appears that everything is already correct.

The screenshot shows how it was already set up without changing anything. I'm baffled. Is there something else that may be set up incorrectly? Because I'm thinking it's not the permissions.
