Brands Scrolling after applying fix - won't allow adding brands

Hello,  I applied the fix (correctly)  as shown in this post.

And it did indeed remove the blank boxes.   I can add new manufacturers, and they continue to work correctly in the product pages.
But can not get them to show up in Brands Scrolling on Home page. 

The block shows it in the list of Applied mfgs.  as being applied, and in the list that is selected to display,  but they do not show up.
I clear the system cache, and refresh the browser or go to a different machine .

Brands Scrolling is managed separately. Once you add new brand, you need to go to listing block and add brand that you like to show.
Again, this is a custom listing block, not automatic.

I am aware of the block and it's management. 

Turns out it was an intermittent  internet connection that I was unaware of yesterday that kept the writing of the new selection from occurring.   All is working correctly today.

hi, i have been able to add the brands to the data listing block. but they are all just listed on the page. how  do i get them to scroll across the page?
