I may be a bit confused, is there a way to accept credit cards using say a merchant service provided by your bank or other financial institute? I searched but didnt find anything.
Thanks for any assistance

Yes. You need to find that merchant service works for you best, establish account with provider and enable payment option in extension / payment section.
Simplest and cheapest way is to go with paypal.
You can always add different payment options later.

Thank you, I just want to be clear, I seen all the options available in the extensions, however are those the only options available? For instance lets say I wanted to use my bank, we will say i bank with Wells Fargo Bank and I am going to use their merchant services, how do I set that up with Abantecart?
Thanks for your help

You need to check with your bank what gateway they support for merchant services. From what I know of, Wells Fargo Bank supports Authorise.net and we have it in AbanteCart
