Ok.  I reinstalled Abantecart.
Set up new store with sub domain.
Added your new cut and paste config file.
Cleared my cache in AbanteCart cart.
Updated categories ... and clicked sub domain store.

And still issues.

And, the sub domain url still points to Abantecart.  But any click throughs still diverts to main domain in the url.

Any other suggestions?  Thanks so much.

I think the oddest thing, other than my new store not working is the whole URL thing reverting back to main domain url once I go anywhere within my site.  Somewhat tells me I'm not hosting correctly ...as you'd think my sub domain URL would still be there thoughout the whole navigation.  Anyway, thanks again for assisting.

so.. when you use domain for default store without www your default store url cover ALL subdomains of your domain.
just add www into store url setting for your default store

OMYGOSH!!   Dude....that rocks.  And makes sense.   And is now working!   So freakin simple.  ... and probably needs to be included in some tutorial / doc somewhere.   Thanks so much for getting me through this!
