Contact us does not respect the user entered email.
« on: September 28, 2016, 05:30:57 AM »
Gentlemen

The emails I receive when I send a test message from the contact us page shows my own email id as the sender.
The email that I provided during filling the form does not get reflected here even though the name is correctly shown. In other words the email sender and receiver is same, basically means I wont be able to respond to the sender since the sender and receiver becomes the same.

Any thoughts on what am I missing.

email configured is domain email (which is forwarding it to gmail in cPanel)

Thanking you in anticipation

regards

Thahir

Hello.

Check what is Reply to email. If your Email software do not show it check Message body and look for the Reply-To: text

Hi

Reply to show the email id I had configured in the system but with the user name entered by the user.

I hope I am making myself clear. Let me put it this way..

In System > Settings > store details, I have included the email id say (mail @ abc.com). Now mail @ abc.com is forwarding thru cPanel to my gmail.
Under System > Settings > Mail 'Alert Mail' is ON but other options are left blank.

Now when I select the Store > Contact Us and fill the details like say
name: John
email: john @ gmail.com

Then I get the mail in my gmail inbox with name John but the email id of John would be mail @ abc.com.
So if I reply to the mail, I would get the mail back to myself.

What am I doing wrong

Hi.

When you click reply in your mail client then it should catch the Reply-to in received mail and ignore From. Just try

No it did not work. When I reply to it (says it) replies to john and I would get the mail send to mail @ abc.com.

i guess it related to your forwarding. Can you post eml-file here to analyze it?

Hi abolabo

Thanks for the pointer. I am attaching the eml file here. I noticed that when I try to send an email to the sales @ mydomain .com from a regular email account I am not receiving it in my gmail account as I expected that to be. Can you help me with some directions.

Pls find the eml file for your perusal.

This is because it's forwarded. Emails have to have an origin and the email address you have in Abantecart is the origin email even though it comes for example from me with an email address of 123@456.com.

My suggestion is use the email address in your store and set this up in an email client. It looks more professional with communication with your customers.  I actually have 7 email addresses. 2 for my Abantecart store(1 for customer inquires and 1 for Paypal transactions), 2 for eBay sales(same as Abantecart different domain), 1 for a forum I have-different domain, and 1 personal.  EACH set has it's own domain.
