Completely lost with email settings

I just finished uploading products and everything works great...except for my email. I've tried pouring through this forum to figure out what's wrong and I definitely need help here. When I set up my Mail settings to "mail" and try to send an email to myself or anyone else (as a test) I get a message saying it's sent, but nothing arrives to my email (I'm with Hotmail btw). I've tried the smtp setting with what I believe to be the correct settings and I just get an error message and a red abort button. I know I'm missing something really easy and I feel pretty stupid about it...but if anyone could possibly steer me in the right direction, I sure would appreciate it..

Hello.

Most of the issues usually with hosting. Many shared servers block sending email to prevent mass spam sending. So you need to check AbanteCart and server error logs just after emails sent. Also not sure about hotmail but when you use SMTP for example gmail it require additional gmail account configuration to work with SMTP.

Thank you for your reply...I don't mind if I use the "mail" setting or the "smtp" setting but when I try the mail setting it says the message is sent, but it never arrives...Any ideas why that would happen?

Just as an update, I've also created an email account with my host site (ljsutherland@) and I'm having no luck with that either. I can send emails between the 2 accounts (dribdesign and hotmail) but I can't get the emails from my cart page to arrive at either one...

Try using your complete email address for your user name -  that is the requirement when setting up hotmail in a client config on a PC.

Also check your spam folder in hotmail -  my spouse uses hotmail and even thought we have been sending to each other for over a decade -  every once in a while he has to go whitelist my (non-hotmail) address  to get my emails.

we've done all of those things and still no joy...I've got a tech support guy from Hostpapa looking into it now..I am still getting messages sent to me from the cart to my new email addy (but it was created from my CPanel...so I don't know why I get emails and my girlfriend doesn't on her gmail account). Hopefully this tech guy will figure out the problem...
