Fresh Install via Softculous issue UPDATE - FIXED
« on: May 26, 2020, 02:40:07 PM »
UPDATE:
It was the softculous install, installed manually and it is fine!

I have just installed AbanteCart (best cart around), and did it via softculuos because I was having trouble with my computer and path name too long errors, I have not used this type of install before.

================================
My server info is:
Hosting Package    default
Server Name    server
cPanel Version    86.0 (build 21)
Apache Version    2.4.43
PHP Version    5.6.40
MySQL Version    10.2.32-MariaDB
Architecture    x86_64
Operating System    linux
Path to Sendmail    /usr/sbin/sendmail
Path to Perl    /usr/bin/perl
Perl Version    5.16.3
Kernel Version    3.10.0-957.1.3.el7.x86_64

========================================

When I add anything to the cart, I get on the cart page the message "your shopping cart is empty" sounds like it may be a permission issue, which page do I need to change permissions on?

I do have other abantecart installs so it isn't my server.

Or I can start over if Abantecart has the option to upload and install from a zip file, is that a possibility?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, I just did a fresh install. Not sure how to let softculous know that their installation platform is installing abantecart incorrectly via cpanel. Is that something you would do?

We have made several dozen installs over the past few days using this version on our servers. (one note,  these are not shared hosting accounts, but servers assigned to our dedicated use nd the boxes are tuned for AbanteCart requirements.)

  Powered By Softaculous 5.4.9

We have had no issues with any of our installs.  We are testing in php 7.2,  php 7.3  and php 7.4  installions.
Just info from one user experience.

As this is my first post here, I have been building PHP applications for years including the entire backend for a pay-as-you-go cellular company.

Version 1.2.16.

Don't mean to rant here, just offering some outside perspective. The overall concept of the store is very well thought out and usable, but overly complicated in some places - especially in the code.

The Scriptaculous script is a mess. It forces the install of Demo items, which are a pain to remove - for no reason. There is no option to include demo items or not.

As far as demo items go, what do you mean, "click on each one and select delete?" Why put that on the person you want buying your extensions? There is code for that.

We were forced to do a clean install and reconfigure everything because of the lack of an upgrade version of installer and AbanteCart was triplicating our orders. We only have flatrate shipping, store pick up, and Square installed as extensions.

In addition we had no idea the reports were not reporting any useful information. They were tabulating cart items not order items - which the clean install also does. This should be noted and clarified in the next version. When there is already other issues going on, this appears as another install bug.

During the import of the 220 items that took a week to add to the Scriptaculous version, we found extra database fields were in the exported source data that were not in the clean install version for tables such as orders. My suspicion is that extensions caused that, but they should not be touching the source tables. Two days doing exports and imports - again this should be automated-=>export company / store.

Appears to me Customer->Orders->Items is much simpler to work with than what the devs burdened themselves with.

In any case, it is my opinion that the Scriptaculous installer be fixed or removed. Ways to improve it:
  • Set the demo items up in a demo store, not the default one
  • Have two installers: demo store for learning and one for actual use.
.

Just for the record,

I did a fresh install of Abantecart for testing purposes of the new version. Did it via Softaculous. Got the same error malfunctions.

1. pressing the cart image on a product does not add it to the cart anymore.
2. pressing the 'add to cart' button leads to a page saying 'your shopping cart is empty'

Strange, I never had these issues with older fresh installs of Abantecart via Softaculous.

Check the Store URLs configuration in AbanteCart admin

Hi Basara,

It turns out this is a Softaculous thing. When you choose install you have to make sure you use the right http(s) protocol and then go to admin and under settings->store details updated your url as well.

The one problem that remains is:
1. clicking the cart icon doesn't add product to cart

Basara,

I have noticed that activating "fast checkout" solves this problem, but on my test site it does so in a very erratic way.

On home page it replaces cart icon with "add to cart" text. On other products pages the cart icon remains and when you click on it, it adds the left cart on it, but on other product pages clicking on the cart icon will take you to the product page.

Not sure what the difference is. I have been sitting too long in front of the computer so will take a break for the weekend. will check again next week see what happens.

By the way, the first time I used the "fast checkout" and I clicked on the cart icon to add a product to the cart I thought nothing happened. It took me a while to figure out how that worked. If I got confused, perhaps some customers might get confused too as to whether the button worked or not.

Good weekend to all.

Hello.

Did you check the store urls configuration? Make sure the url you visit is same with your store url setting in admin
