We sell electronic kits e.g.: a power supply, SD card, Raspberry Pi and case (https://www.pishop.co.za/store/raspberry-pi-starter-kit-1) this is of course a virtual stock item as it is a group of actual products that have their own quantities.

It would be the greatest thing ever if there was a way for the number of kits to be calculated based on the lowest quantity of items that make it up and prevent for example somebody from buying 5 X kits and 5 X Raspberry Pi as we only have 5 in total.

Opencart has a nice 3rd party extension (http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route=extension/extension/info&extension_id=16254&filter_search=product%20bundle) that deals with the problem quite eloquently by displaying the kit as a product but simply adding the group of products to the cart with a discount.

I'd be prepared to buy an add on or sponsor some development if we could get this done (we're in South Africa so don't ask me for thousands of USA as the exchange rate is very limiting... A few hundred at most)

I just experienced a very similar scenario:

A customer placed and order and chose store pickup (which is free = R0 ZAR) then decided that they dont want to drive through and pickup so asked for the item to be shipped,
I simply removed the collection option, added a new shipping item to the order and gave it a value or R100 ZAR, clicked save and all works well.
but, for testing sake (we upgraded from 1.1.9 to 1.2.5 this week) i clicked Save & recalculate and the shipping changed back to R0 ZAR again.

A possible bug? or is the Collection price somehow being pulled from somewhere?

Im really looking for anybody to help me out with PayFast.co.za integration (https://www.payfast.co.za/documentation/sample-code-php/) they dont yet recognize Abantecart as a big enough community to serve and I'd love to do the dev myself but time is a major issue (as I'm sure it is for all of us trying to run our stores) would anybody be interested in a bit of freelance work or at very least some collaboration so we can get working on this together.

I know this topic has become a little quite... but I too have the same requirement...

I tried downloading the default_flat_rate_shipping module and modifying the files (names, folders) and file content to a different name in the hope that I would have the standard flat rate displayed on checkout with the new "major areas flat rate" module.... after 2 days of reading all the documentation online, trying countless ideas and playing exhaustively with the developer tools extension... I'm not sure that its even possible for somebody to build an extension for Abantecart without having some serious PHP skills... if somebody could do a little example like this one from opencart (.../viewtopic.php?t=30226) I would be the happiest man alive.
