Title: MS Will No Longer Support W8.1
Post by: gordontaylor on April 15, 2014, 12:01:39 PM
In a surprise move, MS will no longer support security for W8.1 after May 13, 2014, only the updated version will be supported.

Quote
“Windows 8.1 Update is a cumulative update to Windows 8.1,” said Microsoft Senior Product Marketing Manager Ben Hunter in an apparently innocuous blog post aimed at IT professionals. Then came the clanger: “It also becomes the new servicing baseline for Windows 8.1, so next month’s security updates (on May 13th, the next ‘Patch Tuesday’) will be dependent on Windows 8.1 Update.”

In English: Windows 8.1 will no longer receive security updates after 13 May. This is your 4 week countdown warning.

MicroSoft continues it's troubles with the entire Windows 8 thing and is rushing Windows 9 to completion.

They are dropping way behind the operating curve as more and more people move to mobile and hardly anyone is moving to Windows phones. Google continues to rule with Android and ChromeOS.

Bye-bye Windows 8.1 - I never even used you.

UPDATE your windows 8.1 now or you'll be left behind.

Yup, china is going to ban windows 8.1 and I don´t blame them.
Expensive + vendor lock ins + being depended on MS updates and policy.
Windows 9 is already announced, yeah right, windows 10, 11, anyone ?
For me windows 7 is the last windows and will make me going
until 2020. Gives me more than enough time to migrate to Linux Mint.
