Title: Change Add to cart button for Out of Stock items

I'd like to change the Add to Cart button so that it reads something like "Pre-Order" or just "Out of Stock" rather than disabling the stock item if it is out of stock, or the customer not seeing it is out of stock until they go to check out.

Can anyone guide me on how I can do this?

If you can make the image and write some php you can, yes.

There is an option on the Edit Product page to show Pre-order when you are out of stock. You can set that option to display pre-order automatically when your stock runs out.
