Products with Tax
« on: April 24, 2019, 10:53:00 AM »
Hello

Another question for you gurus.

Site https://www.tjn.co.za

I have prices showing and I don't use the tax features in Abantecart.
The prices are including VAT, so I would like to add a message that says Incl. VAT after each price.

I know this can be done by setting up taxes and displaying tax rates - which I have done here as example https://www.tjn.co.za/general-awards/leaf-holder-trophy

The problem is if you purchase say 10 items with engraving, then the cart total is R1190.02 with tax and it should be R1190.00

So I would like to do either:
1. fix the rounding errors and use taxes
2. leave as is and just add a message after prices that say "Incl. VAT".

Thank you

Check the prices as they entered in admin

Thank you but that doesn't answer either question.

So I would like to do either:
1. fix the rounding errors and use taxes
2. leave as is and just add a message after prices that say "Incl. VAT".

What is the tax rate setting you have?  What price value in the product (in admin)?

If you product price is 103.48 there is no rounding issue

Price for the item is 77.3912
Price for engraving is 26.0869
Tax rate is 15%

Please go to https://www.tjn.co.za/general-awards/leaf-holder-trophy
Choose to add engraving and a quantity of 10 items. Amount shows as R1190.00
But when you go to the cart the amount is R1,190.02

If you add just the trophy, no engraving and quantity of 10, then the total is R889.99

The prices including VAT must be rounded figures, they can't be R77.40 excl. VAT and R89.01 incl. VAT
This is because we don't have R0.01 and R0.02 coins any more for cash paying customers.

Try to change the decimal value to 1 in currency settings. Also if you say in your country no more 0.01 coins why you have prices with 4 digits (77.3912) ?

Can you post again latest values entered in admin:
product price
engraving price
tax rate

Apologies yes, I was trying to see if there is a possible amount that fixes the rounding error.
I have put the prices back as:

Price for the item is 77.3912
Price for engraving is 26.0869
Tax rate is 15%

If I change decimal value to 1, then prices display as R89.0 which looks wrong.
The shopping cart total then rounds up way too much, so R119.00 is shown as R119.2 where before is was R119.02

Prices are rounded in calculations
read 77.3912 as 77.39
read 26.0869 as 26.09
so 10 items in cart = (77.39 + 26.09)*10 = 1034.8
15 % = 1034.8*15/100 = 155.22
total = 1,190.02

Which doesn't work for me. Prices must be exactly correct.

Hence why I'd then rather go with the 2nd option of my original post:
1. fix the rounding errors and use taxes
2. leave as is and just add a message after prices that say "Incl. VAT".

Where can I add the wording after the price? Which file?

To change Inc Tax text search for "price_with_tax" language definition in your admin
That text added automatically when Display Prices With Tax setting enabled and some tax rate applied to product

That is for the price when I activate the tax feature and we get the errors as we've been discussing below above.
I've done that already to show the word VAT instead of TAX. This is point 1 of my initial question.

FOR POINT 2:
I want to add the wording after the price but not activate any tax feature.
There is no need for the site to calculate any tax as it will all be done in quickbooks and clients will receive that invoice.
So clients can visit the site and see the total price which all state an amount and the words "incl. VAT" afterwards.

From my post:
So I would like to do either:
1. fix the rounding errors and use taxes
2. leave as is and just add a message after prices that say "Incl. VAT".

Seems I have come up with a solution that may just work.

I changed the tax rate as to work as follows:

Apply tax if < 0
Better option: Apply tax if = 0

So now it reflects a price:
R9.50 Inc VAT

Shopping cart then has
Subtotal
Shipping
Total

With no tax calculation (which will be shown on the invoice from Quickbooks as mentioned).
