Hello there,

I am new to AbanteCart and have been working on setting up my online store over the past few weeks. I have got most of the basics down; but I am looking for some advice on how to optimize my product pages to improve their SEO performance.

From what I understand; having well optimized product pages can make a significant difference in attracting organic traffic; and I want to make sure I'm doing everything possible to get my products noticed by search engines. Although;  I am not entirely sure where to start or what the best practices are within AbanteCart for SEO.

How important are these for each product page; and what are some tips for crafting effective ones?

What are the best practices for optimizing product images for SEO? Should I focus on alt text; file names; or something else?

Does AbanteCart allow for custom URLs for product pages; and if so  what are the best practices for structuring these URLs for SEO?

Are there any specific tools or features within AbanteCart that can help with keyword research or on-page content optimization?

How can I effectively use internal linking on my product pages to boost SEO?

Also, I have gone through this post;  which definitely helped me out a lot.

Thank you in advance for your help and assistance.

Hello Roberrttt just use a SEO addon, it works great, my site is always on top of google searches.

Welcome! Optimizing AbanteCart product pages is key for visibility. Think compelling meta descriptions, relevant keywords (long-tail is your friend!), and descriptive alt text for images. Speaking of blasts, optimizing your site is like a good block blast session - strategically removing obstacles to reach the top! Clean URLs matter, too. Explore AbanteCart's features for keyword suggestions. Internal linking strengthens your site's structure. Good luck!

Hi Roberrttt,

Welcome to AbanteCart. Here's a more complete answer to the questions you raised, since most replies above just pointed to the SEO addon without covering the specifics.

Meta titles and descriptions: These matter a lot per product page since they directly affect click through rate from search results, even more than raw rankings. In AbanteCart, each product has its own SEO tab in the admin panel where you can set a custom meta title, meta description, and meta keywords. Keep the meta description under about 155 to 160 characters, write it like ad copy rather than a summary, and include the main keyword naturally instead of stuffing it in.

Image optimization: Alt text and file names both matter, but for different reasons. Alt text helps with image search visibility and accessibility, while descriptive file names (like blue canvas backpack.jpg instead of img1023.jpg) give search engines an extra signal about what is actually in the image. AbanteCart lets you set alt text per image in the product edit screen, so it is worth filling that in for every product image rather than just the main one.

Custom URLs: Yes, AbanteCart supports SEO friendly URLs. Under System, Settings, SEO, you can enable SEO URLs and then set a custom keyword per product under that same SEO tab mentioned earlier. Keep them short, use hyphens between words, and avoid stuffing category names into every single product URL since that gets repetitive and can look spammy to search engines.

Keyword research inside AbanteCart: The platform itself does not have a built in keyword research tool, so most store owners pair it with an external tool for finding search volume and then just apply those keywords manually into the meta fields and product descriptions. The SEO Pack extension mentioned earlier in this thread can help streamline bulk editing of these fields if you have a large catalog.

Internal linking: Related products and category cross links do most of the heavy lifting here. Make sure your related products section is actually populated with relevant items, and consider linking out to relevant blog content or buying guides from within product descriptions where it makes sense. This keeps visitors on site longer and helps search engines understand how your pages relate to each other.

One additional tip beyond your questions: make sure each product has a decently long, unique description rather than a short spec list copied from the manufacturer. Duplicate manufacturer descriptions across many stores is one of the more common reasons product pages underperform in search.

Hope this helps you get started.
