Seeing a lot of questions lately about the new weight loss tablets, so I thought I'd pull together what's known so far for anyone considering them.

The UK now has two once-daily GLP-1 tablets licensed for weight management. The Wegovy pill (semaglutide) was approved by the MHRA in June 2026, and Foundayo (orforglipron) followed in August. Both work in a similar way to the injections, helping reduce appetite and making you feel fuller for longer.

The biggest practical difference is how you take them. The Wegovy pill has to be taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with a small sip of water, and then you need to wait about 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other medicines. Foundayo can be taken at any time of day, with or without food, which might suit people with busy or irregular routines.

Eligibility is similar for both. They're generally for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 and above with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes. Neither is currently available on the NHS for weight loss, so access is through private providers after a medical assessment.

Side effects are mostly digestive, like nausea, constipation or diarrhoea, especially when the dose is increased. Worth knowing too: Foundayo may affect how well the oral contraceptive pill works in the early weeks, so mention it to your prescriber if that applies.

For anyone looking into private options, Weight Medics has a page covering both tablets, and they start with a video consultation with a UK clinician who checks whether you're suitable and which one fits your lifestyle better.

Has anyone here switched from injections to tablets, or is anyone weighing up which one to try? Would be useful to hear what questions people have.
