Have products that I don't want the "add to cart" option available

Greetings - I'll explain this as it is an unusual situation.  I currently have about 9 products that we are basically the middle man on. 

(1) They are all individually created within about 2 months
(2) Don't know shipping costs until completed and depending on where they ship to
(3) We end up dealing with the money aspect between customer and artist and always need to ask for the unknown shipping costs a couple months after the purchase

This is certainly not a good way to do business, I know, but that's what it is right now. 

I'd like to put these up with a link to a contact form (which I have in place) and NOT allow the customer to put this item in the cart -- possible? 

Hope my question is clear, if not I'll be happy to clarify further.

This will put product to display mode only with no ability to order. Contact us for order message will be displayed.

on product edit page?

Exactly, it will block it from ordering, but still be visible.

Hey abolabo - that sounds like exactly what I need - BUT I can't find the "Block Product From Ordering" under product edit > general   can you point me in the right direction to find this setting please?

Look for "Block Product From Ordering" in product edit -> data section. This is there starting v1.1.8

where can I remove the "call to order" image as I'll work that into the product description and it will go elsewhere, not to us.
