I can see "sale" tag while the product on sale, but why can't I see "new" tag?

"Sale" tag is included in the product image when it's on sale. But why when I added new item, it doesn't show any "new" tag on the newly added product? Also the "offer" tag on product as well. Refer to the picture attached and you'll know what I mean.

Any tips is much appreciated. Thanks.

Because, there is no new tag...

does it mean we have to customize it? I saw the image "new" tag in the view\default_html5\image directory...
