Hello.

Looks like template503 hardcode favicon and ignore AbanteCart settings.
To change favicon in template503:
1. Go to Admin-System-Settings- Appearence Tab
2. Click on Icon
3. in RL (resource library) popup click on 'Resource Library' text in the top right
4. Search with 'favicon' keyword
5. Click on template503 icon
6. This will give you real path where template503 icon located on the server. something like /resources/image/18/78/e.png
7. Use FTP or hosting Cpanel file manager to upload new favicon with same name to /resources/image/18/78/ folder
8. Clear browser cache to see changes on storefront

Hello.

Check all steps again (especially browser cache). I have tested this solution twice on my side (AbanteCart 1.1.9)
Try to clear AbanteCart cache too
