Login Username / Email issue

i have pre-install with customer login as User name.
And when I change to login with email.

example. user name tim88 which have tim88@email.com

and user registered with username and email.

but when I changed to login with email.

Account cant not login as tim88@email.com, but it still able to login with user name.

Please help, as i have seen there is not much customer want to remember a username. and I dont want to ask them to re-registered again.

If you do not want users to provide login name and use email address for login, disabled "Require login name" setting

i know this setting, but the problem is the existing user with user name registered, they are not able to use email to login. as the setting is set to email login.
