Shipping weight mismatch
« on: November 12, 2014, 06:10:50 PM »
My shipping page is displaying an incorrect weight under the US Postal Service option. It's showing 2.27 for an item that weighs 5 lbs. Can somebody explain this weight mismatch and how to fix it? Thank you.

Are you showing the shipping wt on your cart page (even before any shippers are selected)?   If not,  turn on the show shipping wt.   It is located on System > Settings > Checkout  field is called:  Display Weight on Cart page.

Does that wt show the 5 lbs?  If not, check your product page for what is in the wt fields at the bottom.  Is that correct for input.

Next check your System > Localization > Weight Classes, be sure your default settings are as you wish them to be.
one has to be set to 1.0000 as a base factor and the others are a reference of the base factor.

As far as I know the weight that is passed to the shipper is the calculated wt,  based on the aggregation of the wt as provided in the product page information and the only issues I have encountered to date have been when the product information was incorrect.   Also note that the weight in the product page can take into account any packaging wt you may need to factor in,  that field does not show on the product pages directly.  What I am saying if you have a pound product,  but when you package it,  it is going to weight 1.5 lbs and  the shipper rounds up to 2 lb.  you can make your product weight 1.25.  Important to remember that all those increased wts will add up in a multiple unit order and may make your total wt too high.   For our nuts and candy packages we have found a 10% factor works,  so for a one pound package we use 1.1 pounds in the shipping wt field.

Lee, thank you very much for your thorough explanation. Changing the weight class settings did the trick for me. :)
