Missing order numbers

Hello all,

I am sure there is a logical explanation so can anyone enlighten me why the order numbers are not being generated in sequential order? And instead are missing numbers in between. Thanks

Missing number in the sequence indicates orders started but not completed.

the next invoice number in the que is assigned when an order starts on the checkout page.  (That way there is no duplication of order numbers)   If an order is not completed for some reason  -  the number associated when it started is "missing"

Least this is what my testing and using of the cart for many months has shown.
