Why is * appearing for last option attribute

What does * in last option attribute indicate that appear on the product page.
It appears for all last option attribute of a product that was set in Options. Why is this appearing ?

* mean that your option is required. You can change this in Admin

Probably, it should appear better near Size( option title). It gives a feel now as if last is reqd.
