Correct code permissions

Which codes should be used for different files? I have an ****** message coming about incorrect codes and although I have searched for this information, it is not that easy to sort. For me, the message applies specifically to system/config.php.

Hi,

I have mine set to 440 which is owner read, group read only.
AbanteCart 1.2.5 and all fine with this setting.
I temporarily enable write if I need to change the file.

Thanks for the reply. I did find some documentation eventually and the advice was to set codes to 0444. Perhaps someone could let me know if this is not correct or there is something better to use.
