All images being resized

Hi all,
I am having a problem that whenever I upload an image it gets resized and then I am left with a 57 x 57 image even if it was 600 x 300 to start.  Does anyone have a clue as to what is happening and how I could resolve it please?

Check settings for image type that you uploading in system -> settings -> appearance.

Usually, thumbnails are set to 57x57

Hi
I am adding it for a banner though, if I change that size in settings then that will change it for all including grids??? I'm using the WYSIWYG editor in the Banner Manager, it's when that uploads an image using java applet that I get this issue.

Is there no other way to upload resources such as iimages etc??
