Support / Re: category menu links
« on: March 11, 2014, 05:15:12 PM »
I have been happily ignoring this problem for a couple of months. And that doesnt seem to have worked. Customers keep calling to let me know the links dont work on my site.
And most recently the link target has been giving the address as
localhost/index.php?rt=product/category&path=49
which doesnt return any page.
I know if I clear the category cache then the problem goes away for a while.
Can anyone tell me which file(s) generates this link address so I can try swapping it out for a clean copy?

Was just having a look at your site and notice the white border round your logo is still there on smaller screen sizes. A screen or window size less than 980 px and the white border comes back.
Sorry.

The RM extension always shows as version 1.0.0 even after I know it was upgraded. If you are using AC 1.1.7 then it is the same as mine. It is posssible that it has been upgraded in 1.1.8 but I think someone would have pointed it out to you if that were the case.

I dont ship outside europe so I dont have your problem. But one more thing comes to mind worth checking. Have you checked all the settings in system-localization-countries and locations. I find that area of admin quite confusing but have a good look through and see if anything stands out as being weird.

Barring that and as I am not confident in editing the php, i can only suggest as a workaround using the section designated Airsure instead of Airmail. That has four different country selection categories so you wouldn't need to use the 'other countries' group. The whole extension has no functionality apart from applying the rates you set to the weight, for the option selected. So if you were to find the language key that displays Airsure on the front end and change it to Airmail. You may find the language definition from the search box or if not it will be in
extensions/default_royal_mail/storefront/language/english/default_royal_mail/default_royal_mail.xml

Assuming you don't already use Airsure as well?

Sorry you are having such a problem with the RM extension. AC dont have much interest in supporting free extensions, though I did get them to update this one a while back to make the shipping rates editable. Unfortunately it still remains a blunt tool.

I had a very similar issue to you, but I cant remember exactly what the solution was. My memory isn't what it used to be.

Looking through your settings and comparing them to mine; the first idea that comes to mind is in Airmail settings, two boxes below the Airmail counties is a box marked 'Airmail Rates for Other Countries' Clear all data from that box. Its quite likely it is picking up the UK in that group and giving it the Airmail shipping option. If you dont ship outside europe then you dont need anything in there. If you do, then at least we know where the problem lies.

Let me know if that helps

Support / Re: Does anyone else use the cart's SMTP mailer?
« on: February 14, 2014, 10:15:01 AM »
I have arrived at this point from another angle. I have been using MAIL to send messages to customers without problems. Until recently that is. I sent myself a test mail from the mail to customers form in admin. It didnt arrive. Subsequently I found that no mails to customers were arriving, though order confirmations to the store owner with addresses on the same damain as the store did arrive. I tracked the problem down to the sever host (webhosting buzz UK) blocking them as an anti spam measure. They said,

>>
From what we can see the email message has not been sent. This is the result of a recent ACL modification on the server hosting your account. One of its purposes is to block e-mails being sent from 'cPanelusername@serverhostname'. You can review more information on this implementation athttp://status.webhostingbuzz.com/index.php/2013/11/11/mail-service-configuration-alterations/

We were forced to implement these changes due to the recent increase of spam originating from compromised outdated CMS installations, from which mass spam is sent, resulting in blacklisting of the server's IP addresses in RBLs. To avoid these problems, you should reconfigure your contact form to perform a proper SMTP authentication, and sent emails from a valid email address that exists under your account.
To cut the long story short:
In order for a script to send mail successfully, the following requirements must be met:
- a valid email address, which exists on the server (i.e. in cPanel >> Email Accounts) must be used in the script's From field;
- proper SMTP authentication must be used by the script, using the aforementioned email account's login credentials for authenticating;
- domain must be using our server for its mail and the script must localhost as the mail server.
<<

I don't know if these sort of measures are being used by other hosting companies but the simple answer seemed to be to use smtp. And that brought me here.
Does anyone have this figured out?
Is there anyway to get the MAIL function to send from a real email account rather than username@serverhostname?

Yes, I saw that. Problem is I had some of the files edited to get it to show wholesale prices when logged in as a wholesaler. I think upgrading will create a whole load of work. I'll leave it until I've got a free day. (in my dreams)

I have found in my tinkering that if I clear the store cache, then it corrects itself for a day or two, before the problem reappears. That explains the apparent random nature of it, but doesnt help me understand whats causing it.

Thanks for your help and input. I'm glad you like an interesting problem.

I get what you are saying, but the issue really is why those links direct to the root address. And why only some days? If they followed the rule that if you start from http://www.domainname it sticks with it then there wouldnt be a problem.

There doesn't appear to be a problem with the SSL.
I've checked from a couple of different devices here and the same. Enter at www.figtreebeauty.com but the category menu links point to  http://37.61.233.155/index.php?rt=product/category&path=64. And once there all further links stay with the numerical address. When you reach a page that requires https you get an error that the security certificate isn't valid etc.

Would someone be kind enough to have a look at my site and see they can replicate this?
And any ideas on why? I have not being doing anything structural to the site, just updating product info and the like.

Thanks Gordon. They installed it themselves and all seemed fine until I changed from default template to html5. But I will check back with them.

Thanks for the reply.
I am starting off on the frontpage with the domain name, and only the category tabs are sending me to ip address pages, after that all pages come up with the ip . And the intermittent nature of it is driving me mad. Just when I think I am getting somewhere it stops and behaves as it should. I had a car like this once. It would run terribly but when I took it to the mechanic it would run like a dream and he would look at me like I was stupid.

Support / category menu links
« on: January 17, 2014, 03:02:18 PM »
I have a strange problem that seems to be intermittent, and I cant see what it might relate to.
The links from the category menu keep coming up as the numerical ip address instead of the text address. For example
http://37.61.233.155/index.php?rt=product/category&path=49
instead of
http://www.figtreebeauty.com/index.php?rt=product/category&path=49

The links still go to the correct page but a problem arises when you log in or add a product to the cart because the browser cant find the security certificate. Also if you log in, then click one of these links it logs you out? I've tried from another computer in case it was my machine or browser but just the same.
And then its back to normal, only to start again the next day. I'm using 1.1.6 html5 template.

Have you come across anything similar?

General Support / Re: Banner slider
« on: January 13, 2014, 07:34:03 AM »
Thank you for all the information. It is a bit misleading, because in the default template it gives all the options and blocks for the banner slider, but not the code to operate it. In the end I changed over to the html5 template. I had it in mind to do it anyway, but I thought it would involve more work. It turned out to be very simple and within 24 hours I had my site back up and running, and looking very swish and modern. And I was asleep for at least 8 hours of that. Abantecart just seems to get better and easier to use all the time. Thanks
