This is a complex question.  There are lots of ways to get rank -  some are free, some cost money.
When they talk about "organic" search, think free and that it takes a bit longer.

If your domain name is new,  it will take a bit longer.   You need to enable all the good SEO features that Abantecart has.  And place entries in all your Meta Tag Keywords: Meta Tag Description: for every product.

Enabling and using SEO Keyword: feature will help also.

And to get ranking (showing up on the first page) if you have a product that lots of people sell is more difficult.  What I am saying,  if you sell 'candy' and you want to show up on the first page if someone searches for candy,  that will take lots of work and probably buying some adwords, etc.  This can get to be costly.   If you want to rank for 'My candy',  replacing My with your store name,  then it will rank more quickly. 

Getting placement is not easy, quick, or cheap (either takes time or money).  But over a period of time, the search engine spiders will find you and if you have enabled all the area I suggested earlier,  you will begin to show up.

This is a very, very short reply to a very complex process. There are lots of helpful articles on Google about marketing and getting rank.  Just remember that buying adwords can get to be very expensive and not return high results,  so my advice is to get more knowledge about SEO  before spending any money for adwords

I've attached a screen shot where the specials input section can be found.
A picture is often more easily followed.

The tabbing  sequence is Catalog >  Products >  select the product you want to special  > Promotion tab :
scroll to the Specials section on the promotion tab,  input your information.  Check your home page to see if it displays as you intended.

It seems that the conversation here is not on the same page yet.  Here's a link to the PayPal developer notes regarding IPN that may help explain.

IPN is a reporting process from PayPal back to your URL  of choice.  However,  the receiving URL needs some software that tells it what to do with the information.   That is the one piece that is missing currently.  Abantecart doesn't have a way to receive and use that information currently.

I believe the return URL that a PayPal user can set for a completed transaction is independent from the IPN function.  The return to site URL is for the customer.  IPN reporting is for the backoffice administration for accounting and processing.

Think of the IPN as a server to server communication in the same manner you might be receiving email notifications from PayPal whenever you receive a payment.  The sender (PayPal) needs to know where to send the information but the receiver (your server address)  need some instructions to know what to do with what it receives.

Perhaps the Abantecarte user that has indicated success is sending the info back to a url for the accounting function of a different software that has the ability to process the IPN information.

Template Support / paypal express extension

Hello,
I am getting App Warnings with the PayPal Express Extension.   I don't know if this is an  AbanteCart issue or an extension issue.   I am starting with AbanteCart

I tried reinstalling the extension.  I did uninstall the previous installation.  And the extension does show as 'ON' in the extensions page.  The blocksare enabled on the pages do go to the PayPal when clicked.  So what is this error and how do I fix it?

Here's is the log of the errors after the new install.

Yes,  I do know the product_features and product_options different features.  But I didn't explain my question well enough it looks like.

I am asking about when one is actually using the clone feature with a product reached by
CATALOG  > PRODUCTS then selecting the clone tab at the right end of the product.  The objective of cloning is to copy the original,  but not everything is copied.

Product Tags and the added extension of Product_features.

The original product has entries in these places (I have not tested all areas, only the ones that I am actually using)   But the newly cloned product ignores the PRODUCT TAGS field input  (leaves it empty).   

And any input in the PRODUCT FEATURES is empty.  The Product Features area selection is available on the cloned product so it is enabled, just doesn't "copy" the input over.  The software is reading the feature for all other places, but ignores the feature within the clone function.

I hope I've explain more clearly here.

When using the cloning feature -  some things do not clone into the copied product.

What can I changed to make 'tags'  one of the items?

Also,  I added the extension for product_features, the tab shows up,  but none of the selections from the original product do.  Is this something that can be remedied.  I realize this is a third-party extension,  but the cart picks up the options associated with product_features,  just not the input.

Template Support / layout pages - global rest

Running version 1.1.7  with the html5 template.   Needing help with the template layout pages.

I am getting extra pages in the left column.   I know they are being added when I click on the page layout within the product input area. 

My questions:

How can I remove them from the listing that show up?

How can I get the template settings on the default product page to flow thru to the all the product pages?

In working in the EDIT USER GROUP section -  I am having difficulty in some of the links, and some quite unsatisfactory results in trying to find what the links go to.

I am of course logged in as the administrator.  As seen here:

/index.php?rt=user/user_permission/update&user_group_id=10&s=......



All of the entries show  GO TO PAGE  when hovering.  However the results are varied:

Some links actually work and go to the page it controls.

some places I get this - with no ability to log in.  Note: this seems to happen a lot with anything that has 'extension' in the title.

I don't know if these differing results on GO TO PAGE click are by intention or there is an issue. 

But a more reliable way to determine what the link is linking to would be appreciated.

I did get my issue resolved -  I am embarrassed to say it was user caused by me.   I had been using the wrong password for the admin panel.

Hello again, 

I would really like to fix whatever is causing this warning,  but I do need some help.

This was a clean install of version 1.1.7 not an upgrade.   It was installed on a subdomain.   I used the correct subdomain in the URL on the settings page during install.   But the install seems to have defaulted to using url without the subdomain when it assigned the Admin logon.

Is there some setting I can change?
Do I just need to re-install not using a subdomain?
Can I not use subdomains?
If I can use subdomain,  how do I get install to recognize them?

Apparently this is causing some issues -  I don't like issues .  Warnings need to be addressed and corrected.  I just don't know how to do that.  And reading documentation and searching the board has not provided answers.  Please provide the necessary info here.

While another thread I ran across this from Aug 30.   It seems to say what I am encountering about the last image in sub-cats showing up is how the system is designed.   Just thought I would add this information for clarity on my subject.

1) Why When My mouse at Motherboar the photo away show out TV Mounts Photo??

Hello. Category menu always display image from last SUB-category. If you want to display another one go to Admin-Catalog-Categories and change sort order for subcategories

no additional stores setup yet.

I did not intentional setup different urls.   Here's what I did when from the start, please tell me where I went wrong.

1.  This is a brand new domain on an empty  server.
2.  Made a subdomain on Cpanel.   called shop.mydomainname.net   
3.  Setup database in mydomainname.net  called  shop. 
4.  FTP'd in the ver 1.1.7 files into  mydonainname.net/shop 
5.  ran the install and used shop.mydomainname.net  in the URL.

Please tell me what I did wrong in this setup.   And more importantly tell me precisely the changes to get everything in sync.

I need the shop  to be the MASTER store,  that will be the one that is cloned for multi stores.

I am getting a lot of errors,  so many the log file has been truncated - all citing  the same line

Here's the text of one:

My set up is I have a subdomain  setup - so the url is shop.mydomainname.net   
The admin panel uses   http://www.mydomainanme.net/shop/index.php?rt=index/login&s=bigadmin

Actual cart uses - http://shop.mydomainname.net/

Store URL shown in System > Settings  http://shop.mydomainname.net/

What do I need to change in order to correct the information so I don't see this error?

Hi Carl,

I would have to agree with eCommerce about not using the server resources here.

I do understand having clients who aren't very computer savvy!   However you have indicated that you were going to work on a multi store environment -  so it would seem that you should be looking for a solution that makes all of the web visitors experiences as quick as possible.   That means using resources for the web visitors best results.  And in the multistore setup,  seems like you might be penalizing the users who do it correctly by managing their pics locally before uploading.

So why don't you try sharing something simple with your beginning customers - that won't be difficult and won't cost them any money.   Use something simple like http://www.picresize.com/ .   It's free,  online,  can use image on the PC or from a web address.  It's also very simple.   There are lots of other out there too.

Also,  don't forget DPI settings also affect the file size.  Currently  72 or 96 seems to work well on webpages.  And makes the files sizes smaller.  There are so many phone pics now,  they all seem to come thru a high DPI, 300 or more.  Great for high quality printing,  useless on the webpage.

I get iPhone photos from one of my clients -  they come in at 300 DPI and 2000 x 2000 sizes -  and about 600 KB,  if I resize to 500 wd pixels,  and 96 DPI  it is 76 KB and looks great on the webpage.  Loads quickly too.

Just my opinion here.

Extension Support / global attributes vs extension Product Features

I am using version 1.1.7  with the html5 template.   Under Products >  Global Attributes one can set up options.  In the Extension store there is Product Features or Attributes.   They seem somewhat similar to me.  Can you explain the  functional difference in them?

It almost looks like the extension was written for earlier versions and perhaps it have been added to the later versions?

I am basically looking for a way to add  product size, other than just typing in the description area. ( not shipping wt).
