General Support / Tracking free downloads

I have made several e-files available as free downloads on my shopping cart. Is there a way to track how many times each of these free files is downloaded?

Hi again,

Still very happy with the cart, just another thing I realized. This time with downloads.

I have downloads set to activate when the order status is 'processing' which is my default order status for the store.

Now, I decided that whenever a customer would download the file, I would manually change the order status to complete. Unfortunately this created a problem. After the manual change, the order status 'complete' doesn't match the download requirement 'processing' and this deactivates the download for a customer.

At first I didn't understand the warning message I was getting from this change of order status.  The warning message would appear in the order summary under the downloaded files tab.

Eventually I recognized the problem and changed the order status back to 'processing' and this solved the problem.

Why is this a problem?

1. If customer downloads file and I change the order status to 'complete', he can't go back and make another download even if I allow several downloads of a file.
2. If I need to push an updated version of the file to the customer after I change the order status to 'complete', this file cannot be downloaded by customer

My suggestion for future carts would be:

1. would it be desirable to allow for several selections to be made under the downloads setting so that users can activate a download when order status is 'processing' and / or 'complete' and / or ...

2. if I were to change the store default order status to 'complete' then I would have to change all my downloads to activate on 'complete' and I have dozens upon dozens of them. Perhaps a feature to make batch changes to products would be a nice addition.

3. is there another option (besides no longer manually changing order status)?

Very happy with the cart. One minor suggestion. The color scheme selected for showing which options are on or off has been a little confusing. Sometimes it is difficult to immediately recognize what the selected setting is.

For example, I just realized that the 'send mail' page in AbanteCart Cart defaults the 'message body' to 'html/text' and that I was sending completely unformatted emails. I always thought I was in 'visual' mode... though I admit I found it odd to have no formatting tools... but figured it was just the way it was designed.

After sending various text emails to clients via the standard AbanteCart Cart interface, I finally noticed that AbanteCart Cart defaults the 'message body' text area in 'html/text.' The tab colors make it difficult to know what option is selected... and I certainly got it wrong.

This means that no paragraph breaks were ever coded into the mail I send and that my recipients were getting one continuous horrible looking blob of sentences.

When you send emails through AbanteCart Cart's interface, make sure you click on 'Visual' to check the layout of your mail.

Elemental Watson! I know, but again the coloring scheme of AbanteCart Cart makes it difficult to easily recognize what option is selected.

General Support / error contacting customer

Today I tried for the first time to contact a customer via my admin (Sales --> Send Email) and got an error message - see attached pic.

As far as I know everything else works fine. I have received alert emails and inquiry emails. I have the mail protocol set to 'mail.'

I looked at my server error log and found this

Installation and Configuration / https redirect

Hi there,

I have my store setup in a subfolder, like

I have an htaccess file in that includes code to force https and www use.

My problem is that the AbanteCart htaccess file stored in my /store subfolder overrides this because I have SEO on. So if a person types url, browser takes person to (no www and no https). When this happens, some of the AbanteCart icons don't display.

If person types it will direct to

I have tried a few things to correct this but no success. I either break the SEO ulrs or worse.

I know that when I delete the htaccess file under /store, then the url will redirect with the https and www

Anyone know what code to add so that I can have https, www, and SEO urls?


I decided to see what "Browser Console" was in Firefox and got two warnings on my AbanteCart installation. Both warnings show up on all the pages I tested (store side - up to checkout page). No clue what they mean or why they exist, HOWEVER, when I looked more closely, I noticed that there is a request made that includes the name of my admin folder. Anyone with a little bit of knowledge about AbanteCart cart can use this to find the admin page thus defeating the purpose of having a 'changed' admin page address.

Please look at attachment. Blotted out lines are where my admin folder name is listed. The line that displays this and then causes the warning is for whatever reason a recurring one. That is the request is made every so many minutes.

Any thoughts on how to solve this would be appreciated.

I can't seem to remember how to set up ad tracking in AbanteCart. I have gone through so many e-commerce softwares that I may be confusing capabilities...

I know how to use a graphic banner and give it a link, but how to I create a special link with a tracking number so that I can monitor ad campaigns from different websites?


Upgrade / Upgrade glitches from 1.2.12 to 1.2.13

Just upgraded a clone of my life store to 1.2.13 and got two glitches:

1. My front main rotating banner no longer displays

2. The 'super menu' extension which I used to replace the default navigation menu is also gone.

Error log is empty and system check reports no issues.

Any thoughts?

Templates / Tweaking the cart on header - default theme

I have been tweaking the top cart on the top header line and have two cosmetic issues I couldn't figure how to fix.

1. When I hover over the cart and I get the drop down showing cart contents, the box that appears is larger than then size of the original cart area and is shifted to the left, leaving the 'pointy arrow' pointing outside the cart box. See image.
-- Where do I control the width of the drop down box or the cart box?

2. The other issue I would like to fix is: if you look really close at the height of the 'search' box and the 'cart' box displayed on the top header, you will notice that the cart box is slightly bigger than the search box.
-- Where do I control the height of both the search box and the cart box?

Looked and looked around but the code lines I could not find...

Templates / Responsive product image

I'm running the default AbanteCart theme and when I test my site on Firefox's Responsive Design Mode, I notice that the product image does not resize to fit the mobile screen. See first image.

Is this normal behavior of default theme or a glitch on my side?

How can it be fixed?

Also, I have an image on my home page as part of the welcoming message. This image is not responsive. See second image.

I'm already aware of two little display glitches but haven't figured out how to solve them yet. One is with how abantecart aligns my 'related products' and the other one is with the number of content page links I have on my footer.

How-to questions / Customizing 'content block' in the footer

Hi there,

There is one little display issue that looks not that good on my store site. The problem is caused by having too many 'content' page links. See photo.

Is there a way to customize the content block so I can make it look nicer? Like maybe 2 lines with 4 to 5 content links each? Or grouping links in columns under a common header?


General Support / Misaligned related products images

In the process of testing and reviewing my site, I clicked on the 'related products' tag of various products and noticed that while some images and titles display ok, some don't. See images.

No clue what makes the difference. I tried changing the product name and image of the related product showing the problem to see if this would fix anything but it didn't.

Any thoughts?

Hi, I have implemented the suggested changes to modify the background color of product images and this is what I get (see image).

How would I go about adding some padding around the entire product image so that the background image shows all the way around it?
