Installation and Configuration / Special thanks
« on: August 24, 2020, 09:33:47 PM »
I have run into a few hurdles getting things set up, and the folks here have gone above and beyond to help me get it all straightened out.

A long time ago I was in electronics school, and we built a simple volt-ohm meter.  But the meter itself was only part of the project.  We were each told to write a manual for it, showing how to make various measurements, how to manage accuracy, how to read the dial scale, etc.  We were required to not only build it and figure out how to use it, but become so familiar that we can write it all down to show to others.  I can still hear the instructor describe the meaning of it -- "Imagine you're selling this meter,  You send with it a paper that says, "Congratulations, you just bought the best meter in the world.  Good luck with it!"  No, it is nothing without the documentation and support.

In the world of computers, we're dealing with systems far more advanced than a simple meter.  And yet, in far too many cases, that simple "good luck with it!" is all too familiar.  Documentation and support are half the battle.  It has been a refreshing surprise to find it here.  Being an open source program I wasn't expecting it, but some folks have gone above and beyond to help me get set up.

Everything I've seen so far with AbanteCart has been first class.  Over the past few weeks I've become familiar with things, and very soon I'll be putting it to the ultimate test.  If I happen to run into another bug, I'm confident I can get the support I need.  This is such a huge contrast from my previous software!

Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Yes, this was a bit weird because this was in there by default.  Whatever, it looks like I'm getting a lot closer to going live.

Thanks a million!

I PM'ed you already with exactly that.  Feel free to go into the site and see what you can find.  Thanks!

I don't understand.  What's anAPI key?  On that page are several API's, and a link to request an access key. I HAVE the access key.  UPS e-mailed it to me, I have the e-mail, there is no indication of any other key.

I honestly cannot understand why this is so tough to do.  I've scoured the forum, can't find anybody else who is having such issues, and yet I can't make this work to save my life!  Is there a super-secret code somewhere that I'm not being let in on?  Once again, the instructions said to get an access key, which I did and inserted.

Just as an addition, I just scoured the UPS page to look for ANYTHING related to username and password.

I also checked the status of my access code.  I got a chart that shows everything is "production" except for a couple of freight options which are "Test" mode.  I'm not shipping freight.  The rest looks good.

Going through instructions, I found a reference to where I need to log in with my USERNAME and password.  So I went to that page and clicked Log In.  Up came the login page, with my UPS Account number and the password I use to sign into UPS for everything else.  From this i can deduce that my username is my "User ID" which is my account number.

So I went back and put my User ID in the Username box.  Still doesn't work.  Obviously not getting very far.

THANKS!  It looks like I'm halfway there anyway, and maybe I'm not quite going crazy.

So we have USPS, but not UPS.

When I first tried this I entered my address and it still did not work.  I think the reason is that I had originally selected UPS for domestic, and USPS for international.  This is how my supplier ships.  I've since changed the settings so that both carriers can be selected regardless of location, so I guess this is why USPS has suddenly appeared.  Maybe in subsequent times I forgot to click estimate.

So, again, we're halfway there, which is a HUGE relief, but not completely there.  So now I need to troubleshoot UPS.

Thanks again for your help!  This is a lifesaver!  In a little while I'll go through the UPS settings to see if you can find anything.

Okay, I really do need help with getting shipping to work.  You have no idea how frustrating this is.  The main reason I installed AbanteCart is because you have shipping modules here, and -- never mind the particulars, I've been putting up with shipping crap for a decade now and I thought I finally got things going.  Am I the only person on the entire planet earth who can't get shipping to work?

I've had so much really good help so far, and I love the program setup so far, but when testing I find there's no shipping!  Should I just chuck everything and give up?  It's pretty bad when I set up both UPS and USPS and neither one work!

Anyway, let's start with USPS:  The module I'm using is USPS Default v 1.0.2.  Here's how it's configured:

GENERAL:

Status:  ON

Debug Logging Status: Off

Icon:  (none)

Auto Select:  Off.  I've also tried it On, makes no difference.

Select to restrict payment:  Select some options.  The other available selections are Default COD and Default.pp.standard.

ADDITIONAL SETTINGS:

USER ID:

PASSWORD:

Both look something like g787f7gf.  I went to USPS and jumped through the hoops as instructed, and this is what they gave me.  I copied and pasted to the appropriate boxes.

ZIP Code:  92833  This is a separate place from my location; It is where the shipments will originate when drop shipped.

Domestic Services:  Priority Mail is on.  the others are off.

Option for free shipping:  first class.  My one-and-only product currently does not have free shipping.

International shipping:  Priority Mail International is selected, the others are off.

Option for free shipping of international parcels:  Express Mail International

Size:  Regular

Container:  Rectangular

Machinable:  Yes

Dimensions 12x12x8  Girth is blank

Display delivery time:  No

Display weight:  No

Tax Class:  None

Location:  All Zones

Sort Order:  Blank..

Okay, what's wrong?

Installation and Configuration / No Shipping Options -- MAJOR letdown!
« on: August 22, 2020, 10:30:37 PM »
I have everything configured and ready to go, albeit only one product.  So I went to the store and tried ordering it.

Flat rate shipping $2.00.  That's it!  Where's UPS?  Where's USPS?

I checked into Shipping Options and flat rate was enabled.  I thought I had it DISabled, but whatever.  Disabled it.  Now there's no shipping at all!

I've already gone through setting up UPS -- to the letter, every step.  I've got the code, have it enabled.  I've set up USPS, followed instructions to the letter.  Got the code, everything is set up.

My one-and-only product is set to require shipping.  Weight os 3 pounds,.  Everything is cool there.

With the UPS and with the USPS Modules, I have both of them set for all zones.  I've tried with auto select on and with it off.  No difference, does not appear in either case.

This is a HUGE disappointment, as the reason I'm moving to AbanteCart in the first place is to get the shipping working.

So what is my next step? Give up and go back to the old store?  I'm completely stuck here!

Saved the day again -- Thank you!

I deleted these two items from my default page, but in a way it's good to know that they still exist in other pages, albeit disabled.  This would allow me to put them back if for some reason in the future I decide to do that.

I'm getting there!  I like that embed feature; I'll pass on it for now but later, when I can redesign the other pages, I may do just that -- will look quite professional!  There are some other good features I may incorporate.  Plus, my supplier send me a listing of all their products, with shipping weight and box sizes, so I should be rockin' and rollin' in style very soon -- looking forward to going live.

Thanks again!

Okay, this is getting serious.  I've gone into blocks layout, found both the About Us and the Newsletter Signup, and completely deleted both, then saved the page.  In the storefront, BOTH are STILL THERE!

HELP!  How do I remove them?

I've installed AbanteCart, and to be honest I've loved everything about it so far.  The documentation is great, the forum has been helpful, and I've been going through every inch of it to get things set up and am almost there.

In fact, there ate two things I need to tackle before loading up with products and going live.  One of course is to test it in sandbox mode, try it out and maje sure everything is cool.  But the other is configuring the main page.

On the bottom left is a block that says "About Us."  Right now it talks about AbanteCart, as obviously a sample.  I don't want it, how do I turn it off?  There is a place where I can do this, there's a switch where it's turned on, and I turn it off and save, but it still appears on the storefront.  O want to remove it.  Contact information is also there -- that's configured and is cool, ready to go.  But on the right is another one -- Newsletter Signup.  I won't be sending newsletters, I want this removed as well.  I cannot find anything at all regarding this one.  How do I remove it?

Thanks!

Spending more time today, it looks like I've got the sales tax set up -- it was under localizations.

Any comments on the other questions would be appreciated -- thanks!

Installation and Configuration / Payment questions
« on: August 15, 2020, 10:26:58 PM »
I've been setting up AbanteCart a little at a time, taking my time because (a) business is all-time record and I haven't had much time, and (b) I'm trying to read instructions as I go along, making sure I understand.  I HAVE made lots of progress but still have more to go -- but I really like everything I see.

That being said, I have a few questions related to payment.  Since I['ve always handled online payments through Paypal, this is what I want to use with AbanteCart.  I've set up Paypal Standard.  There is also a Paypal Express -- what is the difference?  I would assume Paypal Standard is the tried-and-true method, but would like to know if Express has any advantages.

Second, about all I had to do to set up Paypal was write in my e-mail address.  Is there some other whopping big security code that I've missed?  I did notice in the instructions there is an IPN, what is that?

I also have it set to Sandbox mode.  I assume this will ignore any transactions until I'm ready to go live, at which time I turn off sandbox.

Lastly, and quite important, I can't seem to find any reference about sales tax.  It should be set so that anyone ordering from Florida pays 7% tax, while anyone outside Florida pays nothing.  Where do I go to set this up?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Installation and Configuration / Re: USPS Shipping
« on: August 09, 2020, 02:42:08 PM »
Thanks for all your help.

I believe I have USPS and UPS operating, along with Paypal setup and a little overall design setup.
I've also been really busy, which is unusual for this time of the year, but I'll take it.  So I haven't done much recently, and haven't tested things yet.  The online store is only a small part of the business, so no pressure for time.  But the day will come, and if I have further questions I'll post in a new thread.  Believe me, everything I've seen so far I'm impressed with.  I think I'm taking the right choice with AbanteCart.

Thanks again everyone!
