I want to set Abantecart to charge sales tax on orders shipping to Arizona and California. How do I do that?
Currently, I have a tax class called "Sales Tax" and within this class I set two location zones (one for Arizona and one for California), each with its corresponding tax rate.
It turns out that when I placed a test order shipping to MN for example, it charged $10 for sales tax. I have no idea where this amount is coming from. I need the shopping cart to exempt other states from tax collection.
Any idea how to solve this problem?

Hello.
location zones (one for Arizona and one for California) did you configure them correctly see short manual (http://www.abantecart.com/ecommerce-documentation/52-admin-user-manual/system/localization#Locations)
-
Yes, I did configure them correctly. There's no much to get confused about. It's straightforward. Basically, you only need to enter the country's name (USA), name of the zone (AZ or CA in my case) and the tax rate for each. And that's exactly what I did. It puzzles me why customers from other states are being charged sales tax!!

Hello.
Did you assign 'sales Tax' to products in admin (see screenshot)?
-
I picked 5 items randomly and they are assigned "Sales Tax" in tax class. This is the only tax class option as I deleted "taxable goods". The class "taxable goods" was taxing every single state, and I don't want that. I only need CA and AZ taxed.

well, see my tax class settings and how it work for products assigned with this class (AbanteCart 1.1.9)

Thank you for the examples. I checked my tax settings and they pretty much are the same as in your examples. There is one difference, though. When I set the tax rate for both states, I entered a percentage (e.g. 7.5 for California) and left the field right below blank. After I saved the settings, the blank field was populated with 0.0000 and this is what I'm showing now:
"Apply this tax only if, taxed amount (product, shipping, subtotal, etc.) is ... 0.00000". In the shipping/tax estimator, it's not showing any tax estimate for either state. Then I changed the above expression to "Apply this tax only if, taxed amount (product, shipping, subtotal, etc.) is > (greater than) 1.00". Tried tax estimator again, still having the same problem. It's not showing the sales tax for either state.

Hello.
Please login to your test customer's account and try to checkout with address from rates.

When I logged in and placed a test order, the tax rates were charged correctly (for both taxable and non-taxable states). When I checked out as a Guest, it charged sales tax on all the states I tested, including the non-taxable states.

Hello, Ollie
Make sure you have disabled non needed tax rates and/or tax classes.
Please see screenshot with guest checkout on my side AbanteCart 1.1.9 It work fine according tax rates configured

As far as I can tell, I only have one tax class. Within this class I have two tax rates, one for California and one for Arizona. It makes no sense that when checking out as a guest, I'm being charged sales tax for Minnesota, for example, but when logged in, I'm not. Thank your for taking the time to provide the screenshots; however, your suggestion does not address the issue that I have pointed out. Please note: I'm not having trouble with AZ/CA taxations, they are working fine. The problem is with the non-taxable states that are being taxed when they shouldn't. Again, this only happens when I'm checking out as a guest. The shipping estimator works just fine for all states.

Hello, Ollie
Since I can not replicate your issue on my side (AbanteCart 1.1.9)
Please do the following:
1. Clear AbanteCart cache in admin (Admin-System-Cache)
2. Try to check guest checkout again in another browser
3. Post here your AbanteCart version
4. Post here your site url

I cleared the cache following your instructions and tried to guest checkout on Firefox. The tax problem persists. I'm using version 1.1.9. The website URL is www.assistech.com/store
Thank you.

Ollie,
I tried it on Firefox - and all seems fine. I am a guest. See screen shot.
Sometimes it is just really hard to test on the machine you're developing on. Between the cart cache, and the browser caches
it is difficult at times.

Thank you, Lee. Your screenshot stops at the Shipping Estimator. As I said earlier, I'm not having a problem with shipping estimator. The problem is when I proceed to Guest Checkout (all the way to the end). Select "payment by check" and go all the way to the very end. You'll see that it's charging sales tax on non-taxable states. At least, that's what I'm showing on my end. I used two different browsers (Explorer and Firefox).

Ollie, were you able to get this sorted out? I am struggling with this and can't seem to figure it out.....

I am having this same problem!
