How-to questions / Side-load images from another website?
« on: February 27, 2019, 08:03:52 PM »
I have another web address with photos I would like to use for my products, rather than uploading from my own computer. In other words, I would like to import them into AbanteCart using the Resource Library. Preferably, be able to specify multiple URLs. Can I do it from the Admin web interface?

Looks fine tonight for me. If you're still having a problem, clear your browser cache.
If you don't know how, Google "how to clear browser cache". The top links shown all have good explanations.

Built-in Features / Re: Category block disappears with browser width.
« on: February 18, 2019, 10:21:11 AM »
To answer your why question, categories are collapsed into drop down for smaller screens. This is a feature for mobile devices and smaller screen resolution tablets.
I suppose, though that drop down (on my site anyway) does not show the categories. I put a category block at the bottom of the site and that's not too bad.  Thanks for your reply.

Template Support / Re: product image background color
« on: February 16, 2019, 04:25:07 AM »
If the white background is part of the image itself, you can remove it with the free Background Burner at Bonanza. Upload it at burner dot bonanza dot com, use the tools to remove the background, and save it in the .png format. I find it simple to use for most product photos.

No modifications before I saw what was going on, I'm using the default template. Then all I did was get into the .css file to remove the uppercase transforms. I'd love to look at the code that converts the layout when the display width gets narrow.

New guy using the Default template, and Firefox browser. Why does my Category block disappear when I reduce the width of my browser to half-screen? I can't see it on my Android Chrome browser, either. Can I fix this? I really need the Category feature!

How-to questions / Under Construction notice for new install
« on: February 07, 2019, 07:57:14 PM »
I have a new installation in the top public_html folder and would like the public to see an "Under Construction" notice until I get everything set up and tested. I'd also like to be able to see the website draft while I'm working on it. Please support your local newbie -- is there a simple way to do this?

General Discussion / Re: Should I Show Product Quantities
« on: February 07, 2019, 09:19:00 AM »
A low quantity on a scarce item give a buyer a sense of urgency. A high quantity of a common, replenishable item gives a buyer comfort that they can rely on you as a source. It's good stuff, and the only downside to showing quantity is if you have intense competition monitoring your stock. I'm an Amazon seller, and these opinions were formed by my experience there. Best wishes for your success!

General Discussion / New User: Established B+M Seller Going Fully eCommerce
« on: February 07, 2019, 09:12:15 AM »
Hi! I'm jimcooncat, a new user, but have been in tech for a long long time. My wife owns a vintage household goods store and has decided after several years in business to stop selling at our location and move completely online. Through her business I've been selling various items on Amazon, eBay, and other marketplaces for almost four years. About a year ago I got done with my day job and have worked to build these businesses to the point where they can support us. We're about half-way there, with Amazon FBA sales currently being the bulk of the action.

After a very frustrating two weeks of reviewing eCommerce software and services, I have a new installation working as of this morning. I'm enthusiastic to get it set up properly and start listing. I would love to be able to get 300 of our many items listed in this online store very soon.

If all goes well I'll likely be an active participant in this forum. There is so much to explore, exploit, and experiment with! I'm also part of several active reseller communities. I look forward to asking and answering questions here, and bring some value!
