Just to close this out, the problem was fixed by updating to version 1.4.3 of the Avatax extension. The version in the marketplace was 1.1.3 and there was no indication of an update anywhere.

Thank you again. I understand what you are saying but I would like to know what the error:400 actually means since it's not in the log. Is there a list of error codes anywhere?

My main question is how do find out what that error means since it's not in the log like it says it should be.

Do your delivery methods in the Avatax extension have a proper Avalara tax code set?

Yes, I am using the same FR code (FR030000) as our ERP which does calculate tax on shipping correctly. I did notice when checking today that it adds the tax in cart for the product but then does not seem to update or re-calculate once the shipping is added in checkout.

Extension Support / Avatax Integration Not Taxing Shipping
September 25, 2025, 09:42:07 AM
I'm hoping that someone here can help. I've tried several of the shipping options built-in to AbanteCart and I cannot get the integration to tax the shipping price. We are using the same tax codes as our ERP which does tax shipping and I have the shipping methods set to taxable. I am using the 1.4.1 (also tried 1.4.2) version of AbanteCart and the 1.1.3 version of the extension. I've tried both the Flat Rate and Weight Based extensions. I also have the extension calculating after the shipping. Please let me know if you have any suggestions to get this working.

Thanks for getting back to me. Not sure what is going on but I'm not seeing the error at the moment. A few answers to your questions below.

Please try clearing the AbanteCart cache first and then repeat the checkout process to see if the error appears again.

If it does, we'll need more details to help:
    •    The exact error message from the AbanteCart error log (not just the popup). -Nothing in the error log, that's part of my issue.
    •    A screenshot of the error on the checkout page.
    •    Your AbanteCart version. -1.4.1
    •    The theme name you are using. -Novator
    •    Whether this happens during guest checkout or registered customer checkout. -Don't allow guest checkout
    •    The delivery address details used during checkout. -Address doesn't seem to matter. Happened on a few different ones.

With this info, it will be easier to diagnose why the shipping methods are not showing.

Getting the below error on the checkout page and no shipping method is showing on orders summary. Checked the log and cannot find anything regarding this error. Using the default free shipping and weight based shipping.

Any ideas?

{"error_title":"Application Error!","error_text":"Please check error log for more information","error_code":400}

Just an update for those that had a similar issue. You cannot have a quantity of "0" for the promotion or the correct price will not show. Once I set the quantity to "1", the correct prices showed.

Thanks again abolabo for trying to help.

Should I try posting this in a different forum?

You can fix the <br> showing as text in list view by modifying your theme's template to allow HTML rendering. If that's too complex, switching themes or adjusting the formatting method may help.

Thanks for the info!

Sorry, I should have included that. Using "Weight Based Shipping" at the moment.

Thanks for that!

Support / Shipping Tax / Order Calculation
April 16, 2025, 08:10:26 AM
I searched the site and didn't see a similar situation. I am having an issue with the way tax is added to shipping. I've tried a few things with Order Calculation but can't seem to get the cart to behave the way I want / need. Shipping is taxed in my state but the tax is being added to the shipping cost instead of to the tax field. I need the shipping to show the actual shipping amount without the tax but still include it in the calculation. See example for clarification.

The way it is now:
Sub-Total:     $115.30
Shipping:      $10.55 (9.95 + tax)
Sales Tax:     $6.92
Total:           $132.77

The way I need it to work so it doesn't cause issues when the order is entered into our ERP:
Sub-Total:     $115.30
Shipping:      $9.95
Sales Tax:     $7.52
Total:           $132.77

Thanks!

I would have to create thousands of products twice. I would rather edit a few lines of code and have it do what I want. I just don't know which lines of code control the price display while logged in.

I do appreciate you taking time to answer though. Thanks!
