Empty From: in the registration confirmation emails sent via SMTP

So any idea how to fix the customer registration emails from Abantecart's php SMTP mailer?
It's kind of having a direct consumer impact --  all new sign-ups in the store promise a confirmation email but it will never arrive (or arrives malformed, depending on the recipient's server) because of this issue.
