SSL installed but not switching even tho turned on

SSL cert installed and works fine.

SSL turned on in setting as is URL properly formatted as https: with trailing /

Cleared cache but won't switch to ssl.  Also, for some reason it seems abantecart is calling the image of the products in cart as http so even if I force it to work by putting https: in address bar, it still throws error as its pulling http for images for product in cart even tho its not displaying it - odd.

Any suggestions?

Hello.

Make sure your have latest AbanteCart version. Also your should note that your site should switch to HTTPS only where sensitive data can be sent: login page, checkout pages. If your want to set your site to HTTPS only please set store url setting as https too

SSL is turned on and is properly formatted as mentioned.

I don't want store on https all the time (google frowns on that).   

But when doing checkout and click create an account or checkout as guest, it doesn't switch to ssl - pm me for address

Datafun,  you might find this article regarding https  informative,   Google has been on an https everywhere push for quite some time.  And actually rewards all https pages better then non-http.

Please make sure you do not have server side redirects to non http. Check .htaccess for rewrite rules.
