General Support / adding product warnings - after multistore setup ran
« on: October 26, 2013, 03:13:01 PM »
I have attempted a multistore - and have a post
http://forum.abantecart.com/index.php/topic,1244.msg4876.html#msg4876
that is awaiting enough guidance to have a success with multistore.

Since adding a mutistore  I am now getting warning on every Product I add. I don't know if these warnings are due to the unsuccesful multistore attempt- or there is another issue.
I have not deleted the additional store while awaiting a reply for getting it setup correctly.

Here's what's in the logs:

2013-10-24 19:20:57 - warning:  AbanteCart core v.1.1.7 array_unique() expects parameter 1 to be array, null given in <b>/home/mmonline/public_html/shop/admin/model/catalog/product.php</b> on line <b>118</b>

Installation and Configuration / Re: mutlistore home page won't show
« on: October 26, 2013, 10:46:04 AM »
continuing on -  I have pointed the subdomain  demo.mydomain.net   to the default store at store.mydomain.net.

Now when I use the url demo.mydomain.net I get the default store.  This is not the result I want.

Searching the board,  I've only found one other post who had the same issue.  And the answer was to read the documentation.  Which hasn't been enough help for me.

So again I ask -

Master (default store)  is store.domain.net

subdomain  for mutlistore is demo.domain.net

Create New Store has been run.

What/where does one set up the second domain routing to correct folder?   What is the correct folder?

With more detailed instructions this could be a very simple process.  Perhaps some fuller examples within the instructions would be useful for all.

Thank you  - I look forward to getting complete instructions on this feature.

In System > Settings > Checkout  do you have do you have Default Tax rate setup?

1534
Just one comment -  you inquired about setting up the your site to not show the prices for the public until they sign up and are manually enabled?

On the System > Settings  > Checkout  tab  there is a field that you can enable  where  you can
         Approve New Customers:
Don't allow new customer to login until their account has been approved.
This would allow you to be sure you had the proper paperwork before you activated an account.

AND you set this one to OFF and they must log in to see prices.

        Login Display Prices:
Show prices even if customer is not logged in.

Now I haven't tested either of these,  as that is not my model,  but you can test it out for your process.

Please give precise instructions on the ' make sure that the second domain (subdomain) is routed to the correct folder,'

The Manual  (which I have read multiple times)  says 'make sure there is no redirection setup for new subdomain/domain'  and there is not any setup.

The input on the new store on Store URL  is shown as http://demo.mydomain.net/

You are saying to make sure to link the subdomain to the path where the default store was installed to
Where is this linking needing to be enabled and what url do I use?

Installation and Configuration / mutlistore home page won't show
« on: October 24, 2013, 12:52:02 PM »
I am running version 1.1.7.   I have used the Create New Store link.   On the admin panel it does show there are two stores,  default and demo.

Both are subdomains on the same domain:  store.mydomain.net  (default)  and demo.mydomain.net
Categories and Products has the demo store showing in the select box for Stores:

The admin panel when the demo store is selected has the correct link http://demo.mydomain.net/

However,  when I try to use http://demo.mydomain.net/  I do not see a shopping cart.

I am either missing some essential instruction from the documentation on how to hook the demo store to the Master (default) store,  or there is an issue.

Additionally,  there are NO files within the mydomain.net/demo  folder.  Are there suppose to be something within the multistore files?

ALSO:  is there a way for enable a new multi-store to place a check in the categories and products that are in the Master (default) store.  Having to go thru one by one is quite time consuming as it seems to require 2 two-screen function to get to the correct place to click on the store selection.

Thank you for your help.

This isn't a suggesting on how to set this up and I am not trying to change your store model,  but over the years I've done a lot of research on cart abandonment.  Too high of shipping costs is the second highest reason for cart abandonment.

Here's a link to some statistics:

http://blog.rejoiner.com/2012/05/free-shipping-online-retail-sales/

When I first saw your rate schedule it struck my as being in reverse to the trends - Usually the higher the dollar purchase the lower the cost.  Now how this works out for me,  is we offer a flat rate that takes care of the base rate of the shipping (the first pound cost).   Then we add the additional poundage fees into the base cost of the items.  We sell lots of items that only weigh 1 pound,  so it's pretty easy for us to calculate.

Here's what I mean - Flat rate is 5.00, (that's equivalent to the first pound) Then we know that each additional pound costs another .68 on average, so we add .75 to our product pricing.  On average it works out.

People purchase online for a variety of reasons,  but if they see a large shipping fee they are more likely to abandon the order.   On the other side,  if the total of their purchase is within what they deem okay,  they will continue.   It is a presentation problem to get a customer to purchase and still make your profit.
So if the item is 100.00 and the shipping is 20.00  they have a greater potential of not purchasing than if you price it at 115.00 and offer $5.00 shipping.  You still receive the same dollars,  and the customer thinks they have a "deal" on the freight.

Anyway -  just some food for thought here.

Customization help / Re: Changing products per row
« on: October 20, 2013, 05:54:59 PM »
Hello,  I saw your post and went to your site.  FYI  I am seeing four across on the normal screen size, see my attached pic.

But if I shrink by window down,  it goes to 3, or 2 or even 1.  This is a responsive design template - are you perhaps looking at your results in a smaller screen size?

Just a thought.

General Discussion / Re: Google search engine
« on: October 18, 2013, 06:39:43 PM »
This is a complex question.  There are lots of ways to get rank -  some are free, some cost money.
When they talk about "organic" search, think free and that it takes a bit longer.

If your domain name is new,  it will take a bit longer.   You need to enable all the good SEO features that Abantecart has.  And place entries in all your Meta Tag Keywords: Meta Tag Description: for every product.

Enabling and using SEO Keyword: feature will help also.

Here's a link to some Google insight.

http://www.gstatic.com/ads/learn/en/gettingongoogle.pdf

And to get ranking (showing up on the first page) if you have a product that lots of people sell is more difficult.  What I am saying,  if you sell 'candy' and you want to show up on the first page if someone searches for candy,  that will take lots of work and probably buying some adwords, etc.  This can get to be costly.   If you want to rank for 'My candy',  replacing My with your store name,  then it will rank more quickly.

Getting placement is not easy, quick, or cheap (either takes time or money).  But over a period of time, the search engine spiders will find you and if you have enabled all the area I suggested earlier,  you will begin to show up.

This is a very, very short reply to a very complex process. There are lots of helpful articles on Google about marketing and getting rank.  Just remember that buying adwords can get to be very expensive and not return high results,  so my advice is to get more knowledge about SEO  before spending any money for adwords

General Support / Re: Populating "specials" with product
« on: October 18, 2013, 11:09:09 AM »
I've attached a screen shot where the specials input section can be found.
A picture is often more easily followed.

The tabbing  sequence is Catalog >  Products >  select the product you want to special  > Promotion tab :
scroll to the Specials section on the promotion tab,  input your information.  Check your home page to see if it displays as you intended.

Extension Support / Re: PayPal standard IPN Return URL?
« on: October 17, 2013, 05:31:04 PM »
It seems that the conversation here is not on the same page yet.  Here's a link to the PayPal developer notes regarding IPN that may help explain.
https://developer.paypal.com/webapps/developer/docs/classic/ipn/integration-guide/IPNIntro/

IPN is a reporting process from PayPal back to your URL  of choice.  However,  the receiving URL needs some software that tells it what to do with the information.   That is the one piece that is missing currently.  Abantecart doesn't have a way to receive and use that information currently.

I believe the return URL that a PayPal user can set for a completed transaction is independent from the IPN function.  The return to site URL is for the customer.  IPN reporting is for the backoffice administration for accounting and processing.

Think of the IPN as a server to server communication in the same manner you might be receiving email notifications from PayPal whenever you receive a payment.  The sender (PayPal) needs to know where to send the information but the receiver (your server address)  need some instructions to know what to do with what it receives.

Perhaps the Abantecarte user that has indicated success is sending the info back to a url for the accounting function of a different software that has the ability to process the IPN information.

Template Support / paypal express extension
« on: October 16, 2013, 11:34:53 AM »
Hello,
I am getting App Warnings with the PayPal Express Extension.   I don't know if this is an  AbanteCart issue or an extension issue.   I am starting with AbanteCart

I tried reinstalling the extension.  I did uninstall the previous installation.  And the extension does show as 'ON' in the extensions page.  The blocksare enabled on the pages do go to the PayPal when clicked.  So what is this error and how do I fix it?

Here's is the log of the errors after the new install.

General Support / Re: cloning
« on: October 15, 2013, 09:43:39 AM »
Yes,  I do know the product_features and product_options different features.  But I didn't explain my question well enough it looks like.

I am asking about when one is actually using the clone feature with a product reached by
CATALOG  > PRODUCTS then selecting the clone tab at the right end of the product.  The objective of cloning is to copy the original,  but not everything is copied.

Product Tags and the added extension of Product_features.

The original product has entries in these places (I have not tested all areas, only the ones that I am actually using)   But the newly cloned product ignores the PRODUCT TAGS field input  (leaves it empty).

And any input in the PRODUCT FEATURES is empty.  The Product Features area selection is available on the cloned product so it is enabled, just doesn't "copy" the input over.  The software is reading the feature for all other places, but ignores the feature within the clone function.

I hope I've explain more clearly here.

General Support / cloning
« on: October 14, 2013, 03:58:15 PM »
When using the cloning feature -  some things do not clone into the copied product.

What can I changed to make 'tags'  one of the items?

Also,  I added the extension for product_features, the tab shows up,  but none of the selections from the original product do.  Is this something that can be remedied.  I realize this is a third-party extension,  but the cart picks up the options associated with product_features,  just not the input.

Thank your for your reply.

Template Support / layout pages - global rest
« on: October 14, 2013, 03:43:19 PM »
Running version 1.1.7  with the html5 template.   Needing help with the template layout pages.

I am getting extra pages in the left column.   I know they are being added when I click on the page layout within the product input area.

My questions:

How can I remove them from the listing that show up?

How can I get the template settings on the default product page to flow thru to the all the product pages?

Pages: 1 ... 101 102 [103] 104 105 106
