Top Menu icon movement...

I have added a new page to the top menu where login, account, cart and checkout are.  On the customization page for these pages in admin, it provides a space for an icon.  I have tried to upload an icon and it is behaving oddly.  It is there but is very small, it also doesn't provide the second image to get the movement between grey and white like it does on the other menu items.

What size should the uploaded icon be and how do I get it to do the cool mouseover behavior the other menu items do?

The recommended size for uploaded images to be 16x16 or 24x24 pixels. Use transparent .png images
