I know that you can backup AbanteCart, install a newer version and restore the cart... but it isn't complete. Can a person who has done this, move and restore a complete system so that the new installation is exactly the same as the old write a step by step guide. I think that just the bullet points will work.

Everything I've found seems to end with ... then a miracle occurs, and then you're done.

Sadly, steps are missing and a miracle doesn't occur.

Help please. It's the missing link in this really excellent software.

alevene

I wouldn't but the processes detailed in the links only partially work.

hi.
1.you can export whole database into sql-file via phpmyadmin and import it on another host the same way.
2. move public_html directory to another host.
3. check system/config.php.
4. remove all subdirectories of system/cache folder
5. enjoy.

I could not do that as my current version is out of date and won't update. I've made a number of different attempts to update it using different methods. Some give error messages, that were forwarded to AbanteCart. Some have trashed the website but I have complete backups.

I've managed to install 1.2.8 and imported the backup but found a very odd looking site. I then found that the template I was using was NOT transferred. When I manually copied it to the template folder and selected it, it appears to be a lot closer to done.

One new problem that you may be able to help with? Even though I imported without demo products, 1.2.8 does assign cosmetic product images on the home page and I think, elsewhere. I've unattached this images, (4.jpg being the worst offender) and then attempted to delete. They don't.

Any ideas, when even a manual delete via ftp doesn't work?

Hi

Can you supply your site URL? I can try and help as I have migrated many time's and reimported the site and DB without any issues.

It's not the website that's the problem, it's the migration. I even installed a new 1.2.5 and restored the backup. When I did an upgrade to 1.2.6 it worked. When I immediately tried to update to 1.2.7 it crashed.

I'll have to rebuild from scratch, as although people claim that the upgrades work, my results are different.

Hi

Please see my last post in this thread. If all else fails, I can happily assist over Teamviewer.

I asked the owner. He does not want anyone poking around our site.

No problem. I can understand that.

I would recommend you set up a dev/test site so you can test migrations from version 1.2.x to 1.2.x before attempting on the LIVE site.

Thanks

alevene

That's what I've been doing since I had to restore the live site with a file backup.
